Kill Team is one of the easiest ways to get into the Warhammer hobby if you like tactical games but don't want to start by building a large army.
Instead of collecting dozens of units, you play with a smaller specialist team. That makes the first purchase much easier to understand — but new players still ask the same question: What do I actually need to start Kill Team?
The simplest starting point: the Kill Team Starter Set
The Kill Team Starter Set is designed as an accessible two-player entry point. The current set includes Angels of Death Space Marines and Plague Marines, with 14 push-fit miniatures plus the components needed to begin learning the game.
If neither player already owns Kill Team materials, this is generally the cleanest place to start because the purchase is built around learning and playing rather than assembling the system piece by piece.
Reindeer Games & Hobby currently has the Starter Set in stock at $96.90.
Do you need terrain?
Terrain is a major part of Kill Team because movement, cover and lines of sight matter. A starter set can get you playing, but many players eventually want a more substantial battlefield.
We currently also have Kill Team: Killzone Volkus in stock. It provides a dense multi-level terrain environment for players who are ready to expand beyond a basic starting setup.
Can you start with a team you like instead?
Absolutely. If you already know which faction or team you want to play, you may prefer to buy that team directly rather than choosing a starter box just because it is labeled “starter.”
Reindeer Games & Hobby currently carries several Kill Team products and specialist teams, including Imperial Navy Breachers and other in-stock options. The tradeoff is that starting à la carte can require more separate purchases than a starter set.
A good first-purchase checklist
For most new players, think in terms of four things:
- A team you actually want to build and play.
- Rules and game materials appropriate to your starting setup.
- Terrain or a battlefield suitable for Kill Team.
- Basic hobby tools for assembling and painting your miniatures.
If you want the easiest route, start with the Starter Set and expand once you know what you enjoy.
